Types of GST Annual Return

There are three types of GST annual return filing:

Any entity that has a GST registration is required to file GST annual return using form GSTR-9.

Taxpayers who have opted for the GST Composition Scheme under Goods and Services Tax (GST) and have a GST registration are required to file GSTR-9A.

For filing the taxpayer’s reconciliation statement for a particular financial year, form GSTR 9C is required. It is a statement of reconciliation between the statistics provided in the taxpayer’s Audited Financial Statements and the annual returns in GSTR-9. A Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant must prepare and certify a GSTR-9C. GST audit is applicable for those who have a GST registration and earn an annual aggregate income of over Rs. 2 crores during a specific financial year.
