MSME Registration

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 was passed to facilitate the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). MSMEs are backbone of the economy. Government has defined MSMEs differently for Service and Manufacturing Sectors. The definition of MSME in service sector is based on investment made in equipments and the definition of MSME in manufacturing sector is based on investment made in plant and machinery. The definition differentiates Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises depending upon their investments.

MSME registration is not compulsory for businesses. However it is always advisable to register under MSME scheme as it is beneficial for business and provides a range of benefits like lower rate of interest, exemption in excise, tax subsidies, rating subsidies, capital investment subsidies etc. Myefilings can help you to get your MSME registration.

MSME Registration

  • MSME registration is not compulsory. MSME registration is advised as it gives range of benefits to the business by way of capital investment subsidies, tax subsidies, excise exemptions, rating subsides etc.

  • Government / RBI defines MSME in service sector and manufacturing sector differently based on the investment made in equipments or plant and machinery.

  • When investment in plant and machinery (excluding cost of land and building) of a manufacturing concern does not exceed Rs. 25 lakhs it is considered as Micro Enterprise. When investment in plant and machinery does exceeds Rs. 25 lakhs but does not exceed Rs. 5 crores it is considered as Small Enterprise. When investment in plant and machinery exceeds Rs. 5 crores but does not exceed Rs. 10 crores, it is considered as Medium Enterprise.

  • When investment in equipments of a service sector company does not exceed Rs. 10 lakhs it is considered as a Micro Enterprise. When investment in equipments exceeds Rs. 10 lakhs but does not exceed Rs. 2 crores, it is considered as Small Enterprise. When investment in equipments exceeds Rs. 2 crores but does not exceed Rs. 5 crores, it is considered as Medium Enterprise.

  • On registration a provisional certificate for MSME registration is issued. The validity of provisional certificate is 5 years. After commencement of production a permanent certificate is issued which is valid for life.

  • Provisional Certificate is used to obtain term loans and working capital loans, obtain land and other approvals, obtain NOC from pollution control board etc.

  • Permanent Registration is used to get excise exemptions, income tax and sales tax exemptions, incentives in power tariff etc. All the exemptions are provided by State as per their policies.
